Coming face to face with a 600 pound Mountain Gorilla is a very humbling experience. Newborn gorillas weigh around 4 pounds and their movements are slow and awkward like those of a human infant. They develop about twice as fast and in captivity, they live up to 53 years. Heavy poaching for their heads and hands as trophies has almost made them extinct and there are only around 630 gorillas left. |
