Orangutans, which means "man of the forest" are close cousins of the humans, yet we have not treated them particularly like relatives. Their home is in the Forest of Borneo and Sumatra. Thousands have been taken from the forests as pets, for medical research and for zoos, but now the greatest danger to their existence has become habitat destruction. |
