Red Panda, Ailurus fulgens, China
The Lesser or Red Panda, with it's beautiful rusty-red coat and long bushy tail, resembles a raccoon more then it does it's giant relative. This creature is primarily nocturnal and spends the day sleeping, curled up on a branch with it's head tucked into it's chest. It feeds at night on the ground, on bamboo shoots, grass, roots, fruit and acorns. It may also occasionally eat mice, birds and bird's eggs. The Red Panda is a quiet creature unless provoked, when it rears up it's hind legs and hisses.
