A Rhino weighs between 700-1600 kg. The horn for which it is hunted is not a true horn. It is made of thickly matted hair that grows for the skull without skeletal support. Due to heavy poaching the Rhino declined by almost 90% between 1970 to 1980. The prevent extinction, many Rhinos were relocated to fenced sanctuaries in the early 1990's. 1994 was the first time in 20 years the Rhino population did not decline. |
